A spec agro'ed them. Normally they agro the endermen though.

Just keep running into it, eventually it will notice you and start chasing you. Sometimes it's harder than others.

It reminded me of a Muttation pack. Maybe thats what the spectator was aiming for. Lead a pack a Mutt Spiders to a player.
