Near to every video game has different control settings, MC is kind of cool and lets you personalize it.

It won't make any difference no matter what you change it to.

I would say whatever position you feel comfortable. if you feel better with arrows, use them. If you feel better with WASD, use them.

I would say do what you think feels more comfortable. Still, the WASD keys are closer to other keys. I don't even have to move my hands much to play. Q to drop items, E to open inventory. Numbers above for hotbar. Tab to see players. Shift to crouch. All of the keys are in a close range so I prefer that.

It could hinder them if it made them uncomfortable, but otherwise no. The only control I've ever changed is my Optifine zoom (I made it Z, both to remember what key it is and because it's closer to WASD).

Yes, contrary to what others say: this is a big mistake that will ruin your chances of becoming very good at the game.

The importance of using w, a, s, & d is that you can stretch your hand to alternate quickly between functions. The most important being F5, tapping for the hotbar, and crouching. Proper usage of F5 is essential: and if you use the arrow keys you'll have to use your right hand to check behind you, thus taking your hand off the mouse and leaving you completely exposed.
