There is actually an option built into minecraft where you can download a server .dat, and then put it somewhere into your .minecraft folder, and it will automatically save all the server IP's. (When you start up your game again, it will show you all the servers that were in the .dat file)

It's still an extremely convenient mod to have, and it also frees you from the trouble of having to scroll through 50 servers or replace your servers file every two minutes to rearrange it.

Yes, I totally agree. I was just reinstating the fact that something in the original minecraft exists like this, replacing the need for the people that don't really know how to install mods to be able to still do this :)!
