On the age issue, if you are actually mature enough, go ahead and apply. I got accepted at 14 when the 'minimum' was 18 thanks to a well written application. If you think you can do it, go for it! Just carefully consider it. I waited a week or two after mod apps were opened the first time to apply, to make sure I was certain I was mature enough. There can always be an exception!
We were lucky just to have it brought down to fourteen, and as much as I'd like to be a moderator, I don't want to pester the staff with my applications that they'll probably have to deny due to age, as I've already tried once after the age limit was reduced, and was denied for age.
