Actually, the easiest way to do this does not require mods. Hit escape in-game and then hit open to LAN. Then start a LAN world in survival with cheats enabled. then you you can do /gamemode 1.

Suggestion: Make a hilly biome w/ a dome around it. That would be very helpful.
