I haven't posted in this section in a while but I just had this idea I thought I should share..
So we all like playing on new and exciting maps. I was wondering if we could somehow implement trial community maps.
My thinking is that there may be some community maps on there that may not be the most flashy or well known but they may be very fun to play on MCSG. We never know until we try. Ide like to give community maps even more chances to be played and get those lesser known maps out there.
Ill explain further...
Ideas
How hard is it to load a map? I'm honestly asking because I am no dev. If it is not that difficult I was thinking we could have some kind of trial map event where people play some potential community maps, then vote for them on the forums.
-They could either be picked in game by the voting system or just be on a rotation cycle (I think not having voting would be preferred to give all the maps a chance).
-Maybe we could dedicate a couple servers to only playing those potential maps. Then after the winner of that group of like 5 maps is decided the server would go back to normal until the next time we vote in a new map. Or that (those) server(s) are always dedicated to testing out potential community maps.
-These events could be once a month or every other month. Or they could even just be whenever we get enough submissions/constant.
-We could dedicate a section of the forums for the trial maps. The participants would fill out a simple application. If their map looks like it has at least some potential then they are added in. This is where my idea takes root. That whatever staff is checking these apps isnt to judgmental, to give most, if not all, maps a try.
-We would only pick one new map each time to be put on the rest of the servers. And we could even have a backlog of potential servers, saying even though we say 3 win in a months time, only 1 gets released every month. And the people who didn't win could work on their server from the feedback they received on the trial maps forums and re-apply for the next round. Maybe there could be a limit on re-applying.
-We would have some way to make sure we don't get to many maps. Maybe its a tournament style. So the maps that win each session of voting (a month or whatever) then gets a spot in the finals. Then after 3 winners are chosen they get voted for like how chad recently had people vote for the lobby. Or just higher staff picks a ultimate winner to stay on the servers. OR with ever map or two we add, we take one down. Maybe a previous community map winner, maybe we also have players vote on a map they dont want anymore.
-Maybe the staff in charge of screen the maps could get special in forum sub ranks or maybe its only sr. mods that can accept/deny. Idk
-There would be a special lobby explaining what these special trial servers are for, or at least some kind of in game announcement so people know they need to vote on the forums and if they want to play real MCSG go to the other servers. Would points carry onto these servers? I want to say... no? But idk about that. Not having points may help focus on testing the map for the maps sake and not to just win/lose? Idk.
Wrap up
Why do this? Well two main reasons.
1. To give good hidden maps out there a chance to shine
2. To give MCSG even more maps to play on! More is better right? .... RIGHT?
Idk I just feel there are some really good maps out there that dont get the spotlight. I don't have any in mind, I'm just sure they are somewhere. Also I think this would be a good way to bolster the community, draw in map makers, and bring more attention to the forums.
Not only those reasons but it would almost be a fun new game mode for MCSG. New map roulette lol. With such a constant flux of new maps on said trial map servers, it could be fun and different.
I dont make maps, I like to play on them. So I like to think I am unbiased about this.
Let me know what you guys think.
Just a thought :3
