Separate server = more money required to run.

And if you want to relieve 1.6 dayz, just disable your sprint key.
PVP was completely different in 1.6. You didn't take knock back when a player hit you, so back then you actually needed skill to win games. :)

Also, I assume this person wants to re-make a 1.6 MCG on their own money etc.

Although that wasn't clarified so I'm not sure.

NOTE: This is an opinion thread. In no way am I asking for MCGamer to go through this. It's basically asking the community for their opinion on 1.6 or previous game builds.
In other words, if MCGamer had no boundary's, would you like to see 1.6 on this server in opposed to 1.7 or 1.8.

Also, in regard to trying to recreate MCSG on my own term, myself not being a code junkie, it'd be physically impossible, as the current plugins I seek have updated to 1.8 (go figure ). The server wouldn't be public either, as I'm broke .-.

And for those regarding if it's even possible, it is, but most likely illegal as CraftBukkit has been DCMA'd, and downloading a version of 1.6.2 would be illegal (but I did, so lmao.)

Well, I dislike the idea of TRI-compatibility however it would be super duper fantastic if we had some sort of 'nostalgia' server or servers that ran 1.6 and could only be connected to in 1.6.

It would be awesome to have some Retro SG servers that require the use of version 1.6.4, fricking awesome imo... (I was also god at double tap, got accused of bsm so many times lol)
other servers= more money; people say mcsg is dying but i only see its downfall in the community side... It's time for new members to come I believe D:, we too old

It's more than legal to download a DMCA'ed JAR file, it's just illegal for companies / websites / suppliers to have a public download available. What you did was legal, wherever you downloaded it from however, was breaking the law.

It quite easily is, yes, all you need to do is run the server JAR as a 1.6.2 JAR, and boom, it's magically a 1.6.2 server once again. :)
Our codebase is dependent on a multitude of internal, undocumented Minecraft server features that change every update. Imagine solving a 5,000 piece puzzle, then having Mojang come in and steamroll the puzzle every update. That's what updating to support different versions is like.

...okay, I'm probably exaggerating a bit there on how difficult it is, but my point is that it's not as easy as you make it sound. :p

No, I'm aware of that, but the OP is intending to create an MCGamer remake (I'd assume) running 1.6, and that post was directly implied to say starting a new server to run 1.6 is quite simple. :p

How are you even real
What does that mean? xD

It is possible, persay, but if you were to do it like that, it would cause compatibility issues with the plugins made for the 1.8 clients, as well as another host of issues, such as making the game cross compatible between all the different versions, not just 1.6 clients.
