Hello all,
As of 12:30 PM CDT or so, we successfully completed the forum upgrade to XenForo 1.5 and brought things back online. As this is a major upgrade (not a maintenance release), there are a few new public-facing features that you should be aware of. Please note that we were not responsible for the development of any of these features; all of them were added by the XenForo team.
Built-In Two-Step Verification
First off, an explanation of what two-step verification/two-factor authentication (two different names for the same thing) is. Two-factor authentication is based on the principle of authenticating users based on two factors: something you know, and something you have. "Something you know", the first factor, is your password, while "something you have" is the second factor - usually, it's a mobile device with an authenticator app installed. This means that, once enabled, anyone who may obtain your password can not log into your account unless they also have your authenticator device (or your backup keys, which will be described below).
When we were still running XenForo 1.4 (up until today), we had installed a separate two-factor authentication plugin. As of 1.5, XenForo includes its own two-step verification process that is much easier to set up and use. Under your user tab, just head over to the "Two-Step Verification" area if you'd like to set it up.
If you were using the previous two-factor authentication plugin, your secret keys have been migrated over to the new two-step verification system, and you should be able to log in as normal. However, you may still wish to head over to the "Two-Step Verification" area, as you can now create backup keys, which will let you log in if you lose your two-factor device (or it somehow becomes unable to provide keys). Keep the backup keys in a safe, private place, as anyone who knows your password and either has access to your two-step verification device or has your backup keys can log into your account.
Profile Post Comment Controls
Profile post comments now share the same level of control granularity as profile posts and regular posts; in layman's terms, this means you can now "like" profile post comments.
...and more!
