Howdy folks! I miss Colstar already so I'm going to intro like he would. Recently, TheLichBD accompanied by AGFire2013, Diamondballer47, and Bree_ had this lovely idea to construct a "Meet the Community" template for active forumers to introduce themselves around to the forums. So far, it's been a big hit! Tons of people are stepping up and actively sharing cool things about themselves, and activity especially in the community corner has spiked exponentially.
Here's the thing. There have been too many threads lately, mostly these very ones, for even me to post on all of them! (There were so many meet the community threads I had to break my streak of posting on every thread in the Community Corner )
While it's a great thing that people are being open and sharing, I think we can all agree that there are just too many threads coming in right now to handle, and they're all of the same nature. This is similar to if clans made their applicants make entire threads for their clan applications.
Adding on to that, the responses on these meet the community threads become repetitive. I have friends who have created "default copy & paste responses" to Meet the Community threads, and I see a lot of people just posting pointless or random things on these threads.
I'd like to propose something to Lich and the creators of the event, as well as see what public opinion on this is (considering these threads are such a big hit, I think community input would be best for this). Would you all like to see one central thread for all members to copy and paste their template and add in their responses? Therefore it keeps the community corner a bit more open for varying discussion, and reduces the amount of spam posting on threads.
If someone has something legitimate to say to someone regarding their Meet the Community post, they can simply quote the post and say it there
Pros of one central thread:
- Cleans up the Community Corner and makes it more active for discussion.
- Reduces the generic and copy paste thread responses that decrease originality on the forums
- Makes everybody's Meet the Community response easier to find since they're all on one thread, instead of digging through pages of forum material.
Cons of one central thread:
- People may feel less important since they can't create their own thread for their own responses, and there may be a bit less discussion to everyone's responses
- As more responses are given on the thread, less people may read on as the thread gets bigger (yet as it gets bigger it will also grab more attention so maybe that's a win/loss situation there)
Some of you may be asking "Hey, staff members get to create their own threads for meet the staff, why can't I?" Well, that would be because staff members only make them after they are hired (or after a few months of service to freshen up their responses), and given the rate of hires, I'd say someone sees about 10-30 meet the staff threads per month as opposed to the 50-100 we've seen in the past week.
Yay or nay?
Leave opinions (not spam) down in the thread!
