Hey everyone! Long time craftsman, but first time poster.
I was curious what sort of nerdy stories others in the community have about themselves so I figured I'd start a topic about it. We all come from different walks of life and parts of the world, but we share a love of games and most of us share a love of material within the nerdy medium.
I'll start with a story about Pokemon, in particular a holographic Charizard card. When the trading cards first arrived in the US, I knew as a young Pokemaniac that I had to have them. As I managed to get my hands on my first booster pack, all I wanted was a Charmander but I had the thrilling surprise when I opened the pack and saw that glowing holographic Charizard (which was the rarest card at the time). Immediately I had it protected and mounted in my room and soon word had spread around school and such that I had a legit basic booster Charizard in my possession.
Now for the nerdy part of the story. So I was extremely proud of this card and cared for it deeply. However, my love for it was tested in the most challenging of ways. I received a legit offer of $100 for this single card and, for a young kid growing up in the '90s, $100 seemed an almost unreal amount. But Charizard to me was worth far more than $100 and I simply could not give it up and sell out to the Man. Because Pokemon cards are worth so much more right??
I still have this card in it's case up and to this day. And while it may not be worth $100 anymore, I still can't help my instinctual protection over its rarity. http://imgur.com/SIrwL2i
So what kind of stories do you all have?
