The Bridge between Staff and Player

Alright, this is going to be a brief, poorly written, rant about the difference between and regular MCSG player and a staff member of MCSG.

This is something that I've noticed for a while, but in the most recent update, I read this in the events list:
  • Staff-Community Games: Get to know the staff and playerbase, one sword-swing at a time. We plan to run regular Staff-Community games throughout Summer, with small twists in-game every time. Will we pit the staff against the players, or will they have to work together? Eitherway, we're going to have a heck of a time together.

Now that leaves me to ask this. Why do we need an event dedicated to getting to know the staff?

There are two immediate problems with this. One, the fact that staff and player have to be classified as two different people and the regular player doesn't even get the chance to know the staff. Second, the idea that the regular player is inferior to staff.

First of all, I understand the different classifications between staff and player as one is granted with responsibility and has work to do while a player is purely there to have and enjoy themselves. However, that doesn't mean that staff can't be regular players too. It is drilled into our minds as we watch the staff before us, that once you become staff, your new job is more important than maintaining your old relationships and you have to become close to those who carry the same burdens of work as you. That leads to a resentment from the nonstaff community. Lets be honest, if you get staff you generally had friends who were more known because that is how we work around here. So if you piss them off, they let it be known and all the new players who look up to these popular veterans also dislike you. All I'd ask is to become more in touch with the community and be a little bit more lenient. I have witnessed a good and a bad example of this off the top of my head.

Good example: GeckoGoggals - Despite the fact that he recently got staff, he made a complaint thread about the decisions of the staff/developers that can be found here. I appreciate that he can put his responsibilities aside and make a complaint as a regular player (in this case forumer) would.

Bad Example: Not going to be named - Back when I would go on the Teamspeak everyday, I would see this player who was waiting and he would be playing with his friends. Eventually he got mod and they'd play in a private channel. Eventually I stopped seeing them down there because he had moved up to the mod chats and those friends would be scattered through the Teampeak if in it at all.

Secondly, this goes along with my first complaint. Since the players are staff are given responsibility of /ban, they believe themselves to be superior to those without. However, it's the players who actually find the hackers, abusers, you name it. They either get the mod into the server or thy report them on the forums. There isn't any reason for a mod to act high and mighty. All it leads to is more resentment and lack of what we believe to be communication. Thanks to that we have to hold these stupid events that seem fun, but just shows that even the higher staff believe that we are inferior. Yes, I know we are inferior to devs and administrators, but they think that any single moderator or sr. moderator they appointed to man their little government have more power than number of regular players (That's where you have to use your keen deciphering skills to understand what I mean).

People I can thank for this that I've experienced: Ceroria Kat - On Leafygreentea day I'm glad you could act like another players and even allow some people to be your superiors. People like demonsushi who ran it. Even me, who is just a ridiculously loud person with an ego and I was a bit bossy at times, but you guys listened and I love you for that <3

TL;DR
staff builds separation between them and players, makes stupid event to try and fix it, it won't work

I agree a little bit. I don't feel like there should be a difference between a staff member and a regular player. Like they are both just people playing the same game in their room on their computer.
But I also disagree. I am a regular player (waiting rank). I am mostly in mod channels. And there are a lot of regular players that play with us in the mod channels. What I'm trying to say is that the mods also play and talk to regular players.

I don't think the event is "stupid" nor do I think it's made to make it seem as if the staff is better than the community. Do certain staff members act higher than community members? Sometimes I have seen this behavior exhibited by certain mods who forget that they are players too, however we must not forget that we are in positions of responsibility and must act as leaders in certain situations. If someone comes to us for help, since we have more power, technically we are superior and that's the problem because we can't let this go to our heads.

The staff-community games was mainly meant to repair the since broken relations between the staff and community since long ago events had created misunderstanding and separation.

I agree with the point that this event doesn't really solve the segregation between the staff and player. This is why I really enjoyed playing in the Hell Games, and I sincerely hope that becomes a thing again. Even though I was playing with a ton of moderators, senior moderators and MCSG "celebrities" like Blamph, I didn't feel as if they were inferior to me. Everybody had the same rank, same everything. Every team had an equal opportunity win the game, and it depended on how well you played the map. The purpose of this event wasn't necessarily to try to lessen the segregation between player and staff, it was just to have fun. Everybody that applied had an equal chance of making it in, and along the way I learned that lesson.

One of my problems it is that you say the problem happened long ago, so why have you waited until now to try and fix it? I like you, but it sounds like one of the typical excuses a mod will give.

The only regular players there are InterntePolice, who I don't know, and Rhino who I think is a respected member of the community.

I've had this happen to me multiple times with specific people, and now I just get tired of it. You're not the only one here who has had this happen, but don't worry, as you'll be happier without whoever wants to be your "friend". I'd rather have 4 quarters then 100 pennies...

Right now. Normally, earlier in the day time there are more players.

And if you go in a regular channel there are either 9 year olds screaming, people talking in a different language or people playing videos of a adult nature into their mics.
They encourage people to go on the teamspeak but why would anyone want to?
