  • Why do so many people vote for a downgrade so PvP can be better and then regret/rebel against the decision they had a say in? Stick by what you say and be grateful for what you wanted. Doesn't last forever.
  • Did the admin staff think about what problems this would cause for maps with 1.8 blocks if they were to downgrade?
  • Why remove gamemodes developers and other people worked hard on creating and not give it any major promotion? Example: You introduced "Gamemode Spotlights" to increase the player base on other gamemodes, and you also hosted map contests...but you don't add the maps...meaning people aren't going to play. People need motivation to play these gamemodes, your just letting it lay there like a dead frog.

Some Thing I think MCGamer Should do...
  1. Fix there highest grossing gamemodes before introducing low key ones that won't attract players.
  2. People such as the staff and community need to realize that if a server wants to develop they must do things in-order to work whether people like it or not.
  3. Staff need to be honest, no one is stopping you from saying what you want. It's called freedom of speech and I think staff feel obligated to always supporting the staff team and there decisions. Sure, you represent the staff team but your just killing yourself inside and lying to yourself, stop. Be true to you and say your opinion.
  4. This is a more developed point to 2, I feel like this update was highly demanded and controlled by the community especially the clan community. Devs and other people who make decisions of this server need to realize you can't please everyone, do what you think is right not always what a small minority thinks.
First section:
  • Peoples' opinions change, not everyone votes, and people who do vote may have next to no information. The greatest flaw of democracy are the people who use that system, and that's just something we all have to live with. Remember that a majority of people voted in favor of a community-wide Stats Reset, when in reality a better third option existed.
  • The upgrade to 1.8 and the downgrade to 1.7 wasn't an Administrative decision: it was a Developer/Chad decision since it deals entirely with Minecraft and technical stuff. But regarding the maps, the benefits of regaining 1.7 was deemed more important than the current design of a few maps. Those affected maps can be redesigned to fit our current system, and only a rare few are impossible to redesign.
  • Truthfully, it was because the community as a whole wanted to see more MCSG than any other gamemode; People as recently as last month were demanding that we give up on other gamemodes and focus solely on SG. We introduced Gamemode Spotlight and those contests in an effort to increase awareness and attention to those gamemodes, but they still couldn't hold a candle to SG nor did those games have a sustainable level of players playing them day after day. As such, the decision was made to cut them until they could be improved and rereleased in a more suitable form.
The suggested process section:
1. We did fix the highest grossing gamemodes. They're the ones that are on the network right now. We ran the numbers for the most popular gamemodes, and we kept those. Of course, if you're talking about introducing new gamemodes, the tricky thing is determining which gamemodes will be successful and which will not be; unless you can tell us the future, there's no easy way of determining success.

2. This is true, but also complicated enough to often not be true. The staff knows it best, since they're the ones who actually have the power to directly influence decisions (and justify them after the fact). It's the players who have to admit that sometimes the best decisions for the network are the ones that affect them individually the worst. That's part of why we're making these changes now.

3. For the record, the Sr. Staff and Administration pretty much never has to censor the opinions of our Moderators; our Moderators are usually smart enough not to say anything that crosses that line.

That being said, there are a lot of things and people keeping us from being 100% honest with you guys. And a lot of it is psycho-social and unconscious. Taking on a staff position gives you a perspective that really changes how you see things compared to as a player, but I'm also sure that some mods just agree with any staff decision because of in-group thinking. But the same applies to players as well: just because your friend or some influential player says something doesn't mean you're obligated to agree with it. But that's just how humans behave.

Trust me: the staff would love to be 100% honest with the public whom has hounded them for so long. But for everyone's good, it's better that we all maintain polite society.

4. Your argument here seems to operate under the assumptions that update schedules are swayed by minority influence, that clans have influence in Development matters, and that the public was overall opposed to the update that proceeded anyways.

Unfortunately, I would consider you incorrect on all counts there. You'll find that the Bring Back 1.7 argument was common across the public spectrum, and the XAC improvements benefit everyone. Furthermore, if clans did have some sort of greater sway, we'd be releasing a very different set of updates (i.e. Clan Servers and Official Leaderboards). Clans are influential, but nowhere near as influential as what Chad wants based on the public feedback he hears.

Why can't it be as simple as 1-2-3? Because everything is more complicated than 1-2-3. Just look at the transition of 1.6-1.7-1.8.

Trust us: we'd take the 1-2-3 route every time if we could.
We just never get the chance, whether everyone realizes it or not. So we take what we have and make it work.

Thanks Col!
That really does open my eyes a lot more!
