How to start Combos/Strafes?

I know the most effective way is to crit first, but what If I can't crit?

freeze island - doesnt exist so no strats 4 u
holiday resort - get stacked jump in the water go in a submarine and win

Sword pvp is easy.. just give them the left strafe..

Lol but in all seriousness, don't ever jump. And make sure every hit is with a rod combo.
