The question is simple: do you prefer recreational or competitive sports and why?
Personally, I prefer competitive sports as I feel you get a chance to prove yourself and get a reward for all you hard work. Even though there's a lot more pressure and competitive nature you can form closer bonds with your teammates and use the competitive spirit to push yourself further and make yourself more determined to succeed and win. It's not only about winning medals; it's about winning for yourself and the team as well as proving yourself and showing people what you can do.
It gives reason to the sport and creates more passion, even if you have to push yourself to the limit and do a lot more conditioning, exercise and strengthening.
From another point of view, I can see how the pressure can make competitive sports dislikable and exhausting. But that's actually one of my favourite parts of competitive sports :3
Edit: You also have to consider the injuries you get from competitive, since there's a higher chance with the higher level that you drive for and play at. Heck, I'm dealing with injured knees right now
