When I budgeted my build, I tried to make a relatively well rounded computer. I didn't make a machine specifically oriented at gaming because he didn't ask for it in his post. Had he asked for a gaming build, I would have put together a build more similar to the one you made. I also (maybe wrongly) assumed he would be using it to play only Minecraft. An R9 280x would be quite overpowered for this.

MC is entirely cpu dependent..it's built on java.
