Umm wth. Js if this happens you probably don't have VBOs and it's just messing with your game when you try to turn it on.

Unfortunately some computers cannot support the VBO option. It's a thing in the graphics card (I don't know exactly what, but it's either that some computers don't have this function or cannot support it). My computer at my dads house has this issue. I'm not too sure if there's anything to be done besides just turning off VBOs :'(

Possible Causes:
-Your graphics card may glitch if much is asked from it.
-You may have a texture pack on that glitches in 1.8.
-Maybe that's what happens when you get a glitched block in 1.8?
-Your PC may not support it.

Possible Solutions:
-Turn VBOs off.
-Restart Minecraft.
-Restart the PC.
-Check your graphics card specs and compare them with your CPU. You may have some issues with them being very unbalanced.

99 percent sure your gpu is dying, or something else is messed up.

Get a new one or RMA your old one.

If you have onboard graphics, your CPU/PSU/MOBO is dying, replace it. ASAP.
