Say you're a moderator, If someone has made a ban appeal saying that someone bought the account and banned themselves on it and the person who sold it never got paid what would you do? There's proof that the guy who bought it reported himself on the same account as he purchased the account from mcgamer forum inboxes. WOULD YOU BAN THE OLD OWNER OF THE ACCOUNT? or Ban the guy who bought the account and reported himself.

ps. i told mojang the story and they even gave me my account back sooo..

First of all, selling your account on MCGamer platforms is disallowed, so anyone who does so can and will be muted. Also, if you sell it, whether that be on MCGamer or not, and they get banned or muted it is ultimately your responsibility.

It's not always about the rules. Rules this, rules that; Is that all you say? Sometimes it's about morals.

Anyway. Interesting story. I've dealt with something similar in the past, but I couldn't care enough.

Yes, we do it by the books, not by our personal feelings. If we unbanned one person because we felt bad for them, but we didn't unban someone else who has the same case that's an example of bias, which we don't want here.

No person is getting banned, but we would simply keep the account banned until we could definitively figure out whom is whom. So if the person is lying to us about changing account ownership, they stay banned; if the person really did purchase a pre-owned account without knowing its circumstances, they accepted that risk once they paid for the shady account.

We hear cases like this all the time from the Support inbox. Let me break it down how we would see it.

First, clarify the timeline of events. The wording in the OP is very unclear, but here's what I interpret to have happened:
1. Person A has a Minecraft account.
2. Person A gets their Minecraft account banned on MCG.
3. Person A sold the account to Person B via Forum PM.
4. Person B never actually pays Person A for the account.
5. Person B posts a ban dispute to unban the Minecraft account they now own (but never paid for).
From the MCGamer staff perspective, the only act that falls within our jurisdiction, and thus matters to us, is this one:
2. Person A gets their Minecraft account banned on MCG.
Account users can change with or without our knowledge, and we can't force a user to use a particular account. But as far as our jurisdiction goes, we only care about the account being banned, no matter who claims to own it.

I will say that one rule and two guidelines were broken during this event, both of which complicate matters further.
  • Broken rule: Person A should never have sold his account on our platforms, and Person B should have been aware of that as well. Both are liable to be removed as such.
  • Broken Guideline 1: Person B should never have purchased a Minecraft account from someone other than Mojang, and by intentionally buying a rank from a third party, they accepted the risk that the account was flawed in some way (like being banned). This is an example of a Private Party Purchase, which are inherently risky and have little oversight. Read more about the Dangers of the Private Party Purchase in this PSA here: LINK.
  • Broken Guideline 2: Person A should never have given the account over if without being paid first, and Person B should have actually paid for the account they were receiving. In the network's eyes, that is all a private feud that we have no jurisdiction in, but those acts are generally shady business.
Mojang has their own set of jurisdictions and policies, so they should have returned control of the account to the original owner. But as far as MCGamer's policies are concerned, that account- and whoever is currently behind it- is staying banned.
