so the thread in simple what would you do?
Me personally will change a lot of embarrassing moments blowing chances with girls go kill hitler see what happens at the start of the Earth come back prove that I get a noble prize. I haven't had deaths in my family which is good as I don't have that sadness yet.
There will be of course a vortex so if you kill yourself in the past you will die in the furture or if you change something in the past it will have a BIG impact in the future
Eg.
I go back in time and kill the people that started the war the world would probably will be peaceful if there wasn't hatred in the world in the first place there wouldn't be nukes (which would have been good) and other stuff.
Sorry for the bad grammar English isn't my first language

I would become a time traveling hitman. Seriously, doesn't that sound pretty damn awesome?

The thing with time traveling, is every single thing you did will have some kind of effect. With that sole reason, I wouldn't go time traveling. But if that logic wasn't true, then I would probably like, bring modern day stuff and show it to the people. They would be like

If I had a time machine...? I wouldn't do anything. I like the world how it is. Going back in time could change something that would result in me never getting born, or starting a grandfather paradox. Any world shaking events shouldn't be changed as they are so ingrained in society today. (Btw, killing hitler when he was a kid would start a grandfather paradox). I don't think I could imagine a world without the world wars. Can you? Don't say that the world would be peaceful. It may be true but some of our greatest inventions were revolutionized because of various wars. Think of medicine. I would love to be able to look at pay events, but never interact. Think of it like this: I'd rather watch it on a tv, not experience it.

As for the future, humanity has no right to know what's in the works for us. We should strive to better ourselves, and learn about the world around us as we seek to better that as well. It'd be like knowing what you're getting for christmas before Halloween. Let's play it by ear, and just go with the flow.

I could probably write a big post on time travel, but I'm at work.

Time travel is an incredibly dangerous thing. The device itself would have to be something that I can bring with me to wherever I travel, as well as a power source and ways to use it.
Because of the risk of being moved to an incredibly bad location, I would have to do research and make sure that when I travel, I don't end up in the middle of a wall or underground, being suffocated by dirt and stone. (Survival Mode references, anyone?) For all I know, I might travel and end up in the middle of a Native American tribal war, right in front of someone's spear.

Personally, I would use it in order to improve the living standards of people in places such as Africa, India, and other 3rd-world countries. Whether it be in small ways like sending ways to clean and purify water, to teaching them how to use/make (and providing) tools such as hand-powered drills, refining their existing methods, and teaching basic things like reading and writing.
Doing this could advance Humanity by dozens, possibly even hundreds of years.
Also, I could bring back technology as proof to previously living people that I was from the future and knew a whole bunch of stuff, and then try to redirect human actions in order to slow or prevent things such as climate change/global warming.

The possibilities are quite as endless as the human imagination.
Oh, and of course I'd let great human minds use it as well, in order for them to do amazing things for the Earth.

Very thought provoking and fun thread, Nirmit. I'm impressed!

If a time machine was made, I suppose it would screw up history entirely. Not only that, it would be super risky to use if it was like it's portrayed in pop culture. If you went back at all, you would probably be floating in space. So I guess for a time machine to work like we typically imagine it, it would have to be a teleportation device as well.

If I had the power, though, I don't think I would do anything. I love Lively 's explanation, and I agree. As much as so much of human history sucks, it is what it is. Our mistakes and successes define who we are. We might be tempted to go back and fix events like the world wars, but a lot of good comes from those, believe it or not. Now we know what not to do. Had we not had the world wars, the Cold War might not have been so cold. After the Bay of Pigs, war could have easily broken out, but in my opinion it was our wise "don't repeat history" saying that made us realize that war was not the best option. War also gives us new technology and makes us grateful for our peaceful lives. Then there are events that we consider good, that are not actually good from all perspectives. The industrial revolution advanced society greatly, but it sparked a fire that would pollute out environment and wipe out natural resources after a couple of centuries.

If anyone should have power to control history, it should be God, if he exists. Nobody else. Were I given the power, I would love to go back in time and just spectate without affecting anything. I'd go and visit Ancient Rome, tour a medieval castle, climb an Aztec monument, watch the Lincoln assassination, hang out with guys aboard the Apollo 11 mission, etc... Then I would go back to the present and use my knowledge for moral good. This would be an awesome thing to do; I can't imagine anything that would be more fun that touring history, even though much of it is gruesome. After all of this, I still wouldn't visit the future, though. The future is probably too much for anyone to handle.

If I had a time machine, I'd go back to MCSG when LeafyGreenTea was the only hacker (It had to be said)

No, but I actually had a time machine, I would go back into the past (atleast 10 years) because this generation a certain revolution has taken place and I don't particularly like it at all. It isn't Ebola, Government changes or stepping on a lego, but the fact that every is just so dependent on technology. I want to see how life was when we weren't all so occupied on our computer screens typing or playing games. People theses days barely even go outside their houses and it really just saddens me that people have a flat screen in front of them for their whole life is going to benefit them.

Little rant-like, but that's my reason.
