Sure.Sexism is something will and most likely always will exist. And exaggeration of basic human differences, and misconceptions of what the other gender is capable of. I've seen many times that male users use female skins just to get more favorable responses from community and though this isn't hating on those who just do it for fun, like have your profile picture be an anime character you like or the link, I find that these people receive requests to team and acceptance of teams much more often.
That said, as a male myself, it's completely understandable. Here's a few reasons why I think so:
The majority of us males' instinct is to want to protect those weaker than us (children, women) and there is the added effect of girls often being pretty and cute. Take the minecraft community, which consists of a fair amount of is 9-13 year olds who are just beginning to gain interest in girls and likely don't have a girlfriend, paired with the smaller but still prevalent community of NEETS who don't get much human contact outside of the game, let along with girls, and this is the result. I won't lie myself, when I talk to a girl, I instantly want to help her out and talk to her.
Another issue is that there are women who themselves use their sex to perpetuate these stereotypes. Abusing innocent yet stupid guys to get the to do things they want is something that happens both in and out of the virtual world. You have to be careful, particularly when on the internet because anonymity is both our enemy and our friend. For all you know that girl in minecraft could be a 40-year-old pedophile.
My final point is that men themselves are often not helping either. Our want to help females and get close to them can be very annoying, especially those who want to do something on their own. If they say 'no' then accept that, harassing females or rather any gender is unacceptable. Both morally and lawfully. Cyber-bullying is a serious crime, and MCSG treats it as such.
From a man's viewpoint we want to protect and care for women. A lot of us don't have girlfriends, so this is our chance to associate with females. I personally do believe that women should not be given unfair treatment, but I do believe that we also have inherent differences that need to be acknowledged. Those who believe that 'for the sake of equality' we shouldn't open doors for women and other common courtesies are idiots.
The reasons its a big thing its because they seem to have a slight advantage in this gaming- worldSexism is something will and most likely always will exist.
