So you can't have a box that runs multiple game modes? We don't buy servers by the server, we buy them by the box. Server boxes can host 25 servers (or less, for example, 1 box can host 14 QQ servers). This is why we can not feasibly buy 1 server (i.e. getting rid of 8 TF2 servers will not save us any money).
We do have boxes that run multiple game modes, I'm saying that in this case removing 8 servers won't help at all.So you can't have a box that runs multiple game modes?
Obviously if you removed them today no, but if you had reduced the amount six months ago, you may have saved a lot of money. We do have boxes that run multiple game modes, I'm saying that in this case removing 8 servers won't help at all.
Either way, removing 93 servers won't magically produce the amount of money we've invested into upgrading our network.
I knew the title of this thread would make all the senior staff come storming in to their defense lol. Will comment on this later tonight by editing this post. Out ATM.
Meh, not necessarily. Your thread's title posed a question, and we came to answer. From a purely economic standpoint, I can agree with Ava that removing a specific number of servers would make little to no impact. However, since I don't see the developmental/economical side of things, my opinion is a bit uninformed.I knew the title of this thread would make all the senior staff come storming in to their defense lol.
well, it's obviously going to make them defend when you're stating things that aren't true, or need to be rethought.I knew the title of this thread would make all the senior staff come storming in to their defense lol.
