1. Check for virus/malware. I suggest using Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner (just search them up on Google).
2. Use CCleaner
3. Changing the Visual Effects Setting - This will give you a dramatic performance boost! Go to Start, right click on Computer and click on Properties. Click on Advanced System Settings on the left. Click on the Advanced tap, and under Performance, click on Settings. On default, "Let Windows Choose What's Best For My Computer" is checked. You can click on "Adjust for best performance" to get the fastest settings, but it will make your computer look ugly. I suggest clicking on Custom, and checking the settings you want. This is mine:

4. Add more memory to your computer - Same steps as the method above, but instead of the Visual Effects tab, click on Advanced. Click on Change under Virtual Memory. Now here is when math comes in so get your calculator ready :p. What you want to do is get your ram (you can check your ram by going to Start, then right click on Computer, and click on Properties. Look at the Installed Ram) and multiply it by 1024. Then, get that number and multiply it by 2.
Example: I have 8 gigs of ram. I multiply that by 1024, and I get 8192. Then, I multiply 8192 by 2, and I get 16384.
Alright, so once you have the number, you want to go back to the Virtual Memory window, and make sure "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" is unchecked. Then, click on "Custom Size" and type in the number for both Initial and Maximum Size. Then, click on Set and OK.
5. Uninstall programs that you don't use - Go to Start, Control Panel, and under Programs, click on Uninstall a Program.

There are a lot more you can do to make your computer/laptop faster, but these are the basic ones! Hope I helped, and good luck with your laptop. :)

Hmm.. I feel like there must be a kind of malware. You also have to make sure in your power settings that your laptop is running on "High Performance".

Hope this helps you a little bit! :)
