Messi didn't play badly, he just didn't play well enough to change the course of the match. He's not going to get any abuse back home either; they practically worship him and he had a pretty good world cup overall.

As for who I wanted to win, Germany were the more deserving side based on their perfomances throughout, plus I had them in a sweepstake. On the other hand, had Argentina won and Messi performed amazingly this world cup would have gone down as the one which confirmed Messi's status as the greatest player of all time, which would have been a great thing to witness.
