I remember doing some coding in an engineering class. It was using it's own language, but it was a lot like C++. But it used a program called RobotC, and we used it to program some basic functions for robots that we built.

I sucked at it though...
Are you any good at coding bukkit plugins though?

Not at all XD
I can make a robotic arm drop sprockets into a barrel. And once it's decided it's had enough, it'll throw one at you. That was literally my final.

As of our current team, the entire MCGamer development team uses NetBeans.

I use Eclipse, and dont see myself changing in the near future. Its all about the customization!
Here is mine,

compared to the default,

this is just an empty workspace, no code is here, it would look different with code
I've customized mine to be good in the dark - less strain on your eyes. PM me if you want to know how to do this. Its reallly cool. Over 15 different themes you can get!
YI don't even know what an IDE is

I use eclipse as well, I have had no problems with it as of now and it does everything I need to do so I don't see a reason to change :D

You must be like me- I don't get any of the stuff you are saying, I don't even know what an IDE is.. :( I'm bad.
The realm of coding is a mystical thing. For some.
Plebian, i use notepad
Still laughing at this, I would have some composure should you have said Notepad++, but coding in Notepad... lol.

Still, IDEs are personal preference. Like Col said, they're just the workspace you code in. Don't let the influence of other people make you sway towards one program, because everybody's different.

Thank you for that, Col_StaR. Do you also know how to code java, Bukkit Style? :)
Nope. I only know basic Java, but I hope to brush up on my skills sometime during Summer. I had to drop out of my Java class because I realized I was going to be out of the country on the day of my Final, and missing that would have resulted in an automatic F.

Let's not overlook a certain aspect of game programming, though: knowing the language is 1/3 the job, knowing how to operate within the game's code is the other 2/3's. Game programers are considered specialists because they can also code within the constraints of whatever game or game engine they are familiar with. If you take a run of the mill programmer, plop them down with some Bukkit code, tell them what you want coded, and then tell them, "get to work", that programmer will need at least two months to become familiar enough with Bukkit and Minecraft before they can even get started. That's why it's impossible for us to just "hire more devs" as people keep clamoring for us to do, but also why Minecraft-familiar developers (especially professional-level coders) are considered a godsend to communities like ours.

So yeah, I'd suggest you pick up whatever IDE of your choice and just start flipping through Bukkit code.

Just to add onto this, coding the code is all great, but knowing the code is better. You have to understand it to learn it.

The good thing is, Bukkit is one of the easiest API's you can learn. Once you get into NMS (Net-Minecraft-Server, which plays with packets and things built into Minecraft, for example breaking a snowball to a client, but keeping it on the server) it gets difficult, as the possibilities are are nearly endless with that, and with every possibility comes an error!
