I feel like parents are worried about us talking to "strangers" because they didn't grow up with the Internet. Today, we can talk to someone halfway across the world while playing in a virtual game by clicking a few buttons. Back then, there was none of that.

Anyway, my parents know that I play minecraft and talk to friends. The thing is, they think they're friends from school that I know in person. I'm too scared to tell them that I talk to people I don't know irl... However, I have told my parents about my youtube channel. I had to tell them when I was getting my partnership in order to set up PayPal, etc. My dad was actually really proud of me and quite interested by the fact that I could make money by uploading a video game on youtube. He asked me what my channel was but I said I didn't want to tell him. All I said was that "I record myself playing a game and upload it to youtube where people can watch it." I didn't tell him I talk to people on the Internet, go on the forums, etc. I would love to tell my parents about everything I do, but I'm too scared they will get upset and take everything away from me.

Thanks for making this thread duckluv, it's fun to see peoples' responses :)
Same situation (exept the youtube thing XD). I would really love to talk with my parents about my friends, but they are so scared about starngers. I asked them once if i could stay up a bit longer to play with some of my american friends (cadbane4321 , SuperxAndrew ) and they just started asking: From where do you know them? What do they know about you? Do you kow them irl? Can you trust them? What do they know about you? ...! So i will better not tell them that i am in a really huge awesome community with many friends i know through minecraft...

Oh god no... I won't be completely honest, the only thing I said about them is I talk to online friends and that's pretty much it. My dad actually encourages me and says yes to everything to me because my dad thinks it'll be a good experience for me, but my mom just says no to everything I say (Gift cards, new laptop, ext.). and that's one of the reasons I couldn't go to Arcadicon....

My parents do not care at all. They think it is cool that I can talk to people from all corners of the world.

No one really knows that I'm online talking to strangers. In fact last time my friends checked, I hated Minecraft...

Ok lets get started, at first my mom was very protective, my dad left us so she was naturally that way raising 3 kids by herself. At first she hated it, she hated minecraft in general, and without even knowing I constantly talked to random strangers over the internet and showed them my face and told them my name. I made a 85 in a class that I had 98+ all year long at the end of the third semester. She was mad and said I could do better, so she took it away for a whole month. I grew depressed and constantly walked around the house sulking and looking like I was about too cry. She sat me done one day and said "What's wrong". And without thinking I said "I miss my MC friends". She thought I got to see them IRL, but no. I explained MCSG to her for about 2 hours. Now she's completely fine, she knows I Admin a server, develop for another, and moderate for several others aswell. She knows I talk to a lot of people over the internet. Heck, the only time she's got mad at me for being on MC is when she walked in on some of my friends playing the "Who can scream Inappropriate body part on a male. the loudest" game.
