Having problem with Lag?

like no matter what i do , every time i try i always make sure to get the newest java and then i allocate 1024M (1 Gig of RAM) and then i open a world and in the F3 mode it says allocated memory: 910MB and then i get discouraged

Quick question, when we enter that code into the Runtime Parameters, should we do it in the User and System, or just the User like they did in the video?
