My first impressions of someone in Minecraft, without actually having seen or heard them IRL or on another medium, are based off their: Minecraft skin, IGN, and writing ability.

Maybe they just got the skin off the internet somewhere, that shouldn't necessarily be something you should judge them by The rest are valid, though.

Dude, if it's a troll-face skin, they're most likely trolling. For example, if I wear a Tomahawk skin, then that's me showing off that I'm a fanboy of Tomahawk (that and I for some reason kick ass at PVP with his skin - it's some sort of conscious placebo effect). Even if you choose a random skin off the Internet, like I used to do before Fox made my new permanent skin <3, one would naturally want it to reflect their current interests and/or personality. At least this has been the case for most people, including myself.
