Housemate and I went to play Survival games.
I join EU server 38 first.
He tries to join, gets booted to the main lobby with the message 'connection throttled'.
Disconnects and tries again, same message.
I leave the server, now he can join, but I get the 'connection throttled' message when I try and join.

What's going on here?

Not sure, you wouldn't happen to be playing on the same account would you?

That could be the problem. I have never heard of this happen before. I'm sorry I can't help you.

Hi there, I'm not sure if you are aware of the HeartBleed internet bug but it has been affecting Mojang and it's authentication servers. Can you connect to other servers fine or is it only MCGamer? If it's not just MCGamer than it could be Mojang being affected by the bug. We are unaware how much longer the bug will be on the loose but sooner or later the problem should be solved. Might I also recommend as a precautionary measure to reset your Mojang/Minecraft password just in case.

We have our own accounts, but we play on the same internet connection (living in the same house and all).

Oddly enough, it seemed to just be that server. The ones we tried afterwards worked no problem. how odd.

Mmmmm, that is strange. Have you tried restarting your computers?

Perhaps you might want to try connecting in different ways? One person go from the hub to the sign, and the other person log in directly from the Multiplayer screen? I have no idea if it works that way, just a suggestion. Uhh.. the standard "Check for firewalls blocking it, reset the router/modem, call your internet service provider"..

That's definetly the problem. I know some people who used to share an account and you can't play in the same region if. Ur on the same account. However one can play on eu an the other on au successfully at the same time.

It isn't, the OP specifically said they have their own accounts (but share the connection).

Yeah, me and my brother have encountered this bug as well. It's just something to do with the servers and your internet, however it is possible for both of you guys to join the same server and play. I don't think there's a fix besides the dev's going through the servers and doing, well, server dev stuff, but you can try what Mooclan suggested. Don't know if he mentioned this, but maybe one of you try a direct connect while the other is already in the server.
