So I've recently noticed that the general theme among clans over the past year (as if it wasn't obvious) has been to have the potential applicants rate their own maturity and/or skill level.
While I do agree that this can help rule out a couple of extremists, this system is far too easily manipulated. If one says "1-3" then a clanks leadership doesn't know if that person is being honest or is just a natural joker or troll. On the other hand, if one says 9-10, are they really being modest? Or is this just a ploy from a nine-year-old trying to make themselves appear older/wiser?
Yes, the trial periods most clans have can help to alleviate this. However, the most accurate way in my opinion to gain an accurate perception of an applicant would be to immediately add him/her on Skype prior to acceptance and play games with them informally as well as ending their unofficial/official trial with a mock formal setup. Perhaps an initiation ceremony on a private server would both make that applicant feel at home as well as provide an excellent opportunity to see how they handle a mock serious situation like pomp & ceremony.
Most clan battles probably aren't as formal as the one I tried to run with @ZSTRIKERS against UpdatinStatus , but I would like to see more....formality to clans as well as less self-evaluation in clan applications.
I hope this post made some sense to people. Am currently walking back to my dorm from a friend's 3 miles away and just had to write my thoughts on this down on "paper" before I could forget.
