Very good idea.
Our Minecraft servers are offline but we will keep this forum online for any community communication. Site permissions for posting could change at a later date but will remain online.
List the faults.Its ok for us all to have a debate on this but in my honest opinion i think there is to many faults about this idea. Maybe we should get a moderator to comment on this to get an official opinion on this to see if there is actually a chance of this being put forward but in all honesty i doubt it will.
The only way that's going to motivate you is through desire for justice or wanting to serve the community. For me, recording and uploading video evidence takes considerably longer than 10 minutes, and I don't even have bad internet, and with the situation at the moment half the time when I see a hacker I can't be bothered recording them as I feel it won't make enough of a difference to be worth it. Handing out ~500 points for a successful hacker report does no harm at all, and if donors already get rewarded for helping out the server, why not those who report successfully too, since they are also contributing to MCSG?Just putting this out there;
Shouldn't getting killed by a hacker, motivate you to report that hacker?
In all honesty, when I was a regular member without notability and I was killed by a hacker I would record them and report them. It was sort of my 'revenge' towards that user and I would be seen as the bigger man. In my opinion, you shouldn't need motivation to record a hacker you should record them for the good of your playing experience and for the good of the rest of the community; It's a ten minute job at the most. You feel angry when you get killed by a hacker and that anger you hold should be enough for you to report them. I also second the points already made by Mooclan and RC_4777 and I know it's cliché but you should just report the hacker for the good of the community and that should be your incentive.
Good point. However, uploading a video doesn't prevent you from doing what you do so technically it takes 10 minutes to record and report. Anyhow, I can think of 2 incentives:There is literally no reason for there not to be some kind of incentive. Sure, there would be more false reports, but the ratio of false to legit reports wouldn't change, so using that as an argument against there being an incentive is terrible if you ask me. Of course the reward would only be given for successful ban reports or else you would get more stupid ban reports which would lead to a lot of unnecessary work for mods, but otherwise it should be introduced without a second thought, as should anything that increases the number of hackers reported at little cost.

It is, but it would be complicated.Forging hacking reports is impossible due to the requirements of the video footage.
There's finding evidence (recording), rendering, and uploading. Finding evidence can take around 5-10 minutes. Rendering takes ~5 minutes if you don't render unnecessary footage. Uploading time varies based on internet (It takes me about 20 minutes to upload a 1.5 minute video). That is a 30-35 minute job, less if you have good internetIt's a ten minute job at the most.
For people in AU, rendering and uploading takes about 80mins for an 8second video. This is why there need to be a different way to record and upload hackers IMO. ThatJust putting this out there;

a 10 minute job can turn into an hour with poor internet and other variables. I respect your points, as they are good ones, but I don't have that kind of time due to my schoolwork. I'm only on the computer an hour at most every 2-3 days (weekends for a lot more though). But if I only have an hour on the computer that night (as much as I'd like to report the hacker) I wouldn't be as motivated.Good point. However, uploading a video doesn't prevent you from doing what you do so technically it takes 10 minutes to record and report. Anyhow, I can think of 2 incentives:
So, I stick with my original statement and still believe people don't need a ~500 point bonus to report a hacker. They should report a hacker on their own accord and on the behalf of the rest of the in-game community.
- Already said but, for the good of your gaming experience and for the good of the community
- People applying for a moderator position who report numerous hackers are in a better postilion than those who don't.
Just my opinion, I'm happy to hear yours too.
I am motivated by making the server a better place... but it's hard if you have time restrictions as you said.There's finding evidence (recording), rendering, and uploading. I think that the idea is good. Yes, your incentive should be to "make the server a better place", but it doesn't really hurt to have another incentive imo.
I wasn't talking about anyone in particular when I said thatI am motivated by making the server a better place... but it's hard if you have time restrictions as you said.
