Chapter 1: The University
"Time to get up guys." My mum's soft voice echoed through the room as my sister and I awoke from our dreams. We were twins, so it was both our first days at our new University. I was excited but scared at the same time, because after all I won't be coming home for a long time. I was still pumped to make some new friends though. My mum was extremely happy that Jenny and I had been accepted into the same university that she had made us a cake to take there.
I trudged down the steps to get some cereal. Jenny was already up, squawking on about how much she can learn at this new uni, and as usual she is using vocabulary that Shakespeare wouldn't understand. Jenny is extremely smart. She got top marks in her exams and instantly got accepted into this "Valleyside University". I essentially just managed to get in.
We rolled up to a small chair lift shed. This couldn't possibly be the magnificent University we read about in the brochures. Jenny and I said our goodbyes to mum and walked up to the rusty shed. There was a man in a truck driver's hat and a tank top standing in front of a closed door.
"Excuse me sir, is this Valleyside University?" asked Jenny in a sweet tone. The man just spat on the floor and opened the door.
"How wonderful," muttered Jenny. Inside the shed was a rusty chair lift that barely looked like it was legal to have people on it. A man in a bright orange vest asked us for our Acceptance letters. We handed them to the man and he told us to sit in the chairs. We hopped into the chairs and the man pushed a bright red button. The chairlift shifted to life and began to jaggedly move forward.
"Is this safe?" I asked to the man.
"Don't ask me, I didn't make it," he replied bitterly.
We made our way shakily through a humongous glass dome.
"Some pretty intense security measures they have here," Jenny said as she regarded the dome. However the first part of our journey was washed away as we caught sight of the magnificent university below us.
There was a huge football field, a library, a study building, an office building, a gym, and a mountain top house just below our chairlift.
The chairs came to a halt as we hopped off in a new building.
"Welcome to Valleyside University, guys!"
Chapter 2: The First Day
A woman in a t-shirt and jeans scrambled up to us and greeted us.
"Hi, my name is Polly, I'll be your guide for this-" her warm smile changed to a frown but as soon as it had come she changed back to her normal smile.
"-University. Follow me!" Jenny and I followed the woman as she led us through multiple buildings and study halls. Many buildings I had not noticed before, such as a gym and a lecture hall. Eventually we found our ways to our rooms. I had to be separated from Jenny as it is gender-specific dorms. Strange, I thought. I had no room mate. As I thought back over the day I realised I couldn't have seen more than 20 people. This place is extremely weird.
The next morning I got up and went to the lecture hall for the Start of Year presentation. I sat down next to Jenny.
"What's your room mate like?" She asked me.
"I don't have one," I replied.
"Weird, neither do I," she said with a shaky sound in her voice. I counted the amount of kids in the room. Apart from Jenny and I there were only 22 other kids in the hall.
"Ahem! Welcome to Valleyside University!" A man in the front row began to speak. He looked like he had just gotten out of bed.
"I am Kozzo, Founder of Valleyside University!" He managed to let out a little sound between a cough and a sneeze after this sentence.
"Unfortunately I have some bad news for you guys," he said shakily. "Our school has been chosen to host the 1st ever Survival Games... And the tributes are you."
