Wouldn't it be cool to send a message to your friend when you sponsor him.

You could send messages of encouragement like : "Your Going to win BB <3" or " Too Strong"

Or you could tell them what to use the item for like : "Use this enderpearl when you are in trouble and don't use it with less than 4 hearts"

Stuff like this could be helpful to the person you are sponsoring and help them win.

No, you could tell were people were/other peoples gear. Maybe instead of custom ones, they ave pre-written ones tat u would choose from ?
