Often the winning players are those who do well in the first 20 seconds of the game, or those who have memorized chest locations in a certain map. Players who simply run routes aren't really using skill to win so much as effort in finding winning paths (a different kind of skill I suppose). If chests (excepting those in the middle) were in random locations each game, a player would have to adventure to find items and it would make each game feel more like a unique arena. The problems one might think of are that random chests might be placed in impossible places or out in the open.

However, using a mod, the server could place a set (or slightly randomized) number of chests in a preset collection of chest locations each game. Suppose a map has 100 chests, and a list of 1000 possible block coordinates where chests could be placed. In this case, each location would have only a 1 in ten chance of having a chest every game. This would theoretically remove the potential of "chest routes" that players follow every game. If someone could stand picking out 1000 odd suitable chest locations, and if it is possible to mod something like this into the game, then this idea could vastly improve the game-play and the success chance for players who don't waste their time memorizing chest locations. Just a thought.

It would be cool but than the hackers with x-ray would win. But you can solve that with a sort of anti- chestfinder mod when using x-ray everywhere in the map are chests like you have with ores. But I think that's hard to code.
