Optifine

I can't install optifine for whatever reason, it says Java Virtual Machine Error.
So I have two questions: 1. How do I fix it?
And 2. Can I still buy an optifine cape without it?

In response to 2: You CAN still buy an Optifine Cape, but YOU just won't be able to see it. Others with OptiFine can.
