How to go from 'new member' to 'member'?

I might sound completely stupid to some, but i really want to know how i can become a member form being a new member, if theres something i have to do. 'New member' kind of makes me sound like a newb, so its a bit annoying.

I didn't like it when I was a New Member either It just happens automatically when you get a certain amount of posts.
