There's a very simple answer to this: Gravatar accounts cannot be deleted.
Gravatar accounts are actually WordPress accounts (See this post on the Gravatar blog). They're linked together, and these accounts cannot be deleted. However, you can hide both your Gravatar profile and the picture associated with your account (See this post on how to hide your profile and remove your Gravatar picture).
