What does the 'in' mean in the MCSG server IP's?

I was just thinking today, where does the in come from? I thought as hard a I could but I still couldn't find an answer.

.in is the TLD (top level domain) for India websites. It's commonly used all around the world for short domains though.

It's a commercial domain name. The .in was named after India not International.
