Was food nerfed?

I was playing on my vanilla snapshot server (now 1.7.2) and I noticed that food drains extremely quickly. I went through a full stack of bread in 30 minutes. I wasn't even sprinting or anything, I was just smelting iron. Does anyone know if food saturation got changed or something?

Food has always been an issue in Minecraft for me. Bread has an okay saturation (a value of 1.2, which isn't too bad or good.)

I just eat cooked foods. I go through a lot, but it's in a longer period of time.

I checked the update log. It doesn't seem like anything changed. Might be a matter of the difficulty setting. For instance, in peaceful difficulty, your food doesn't wear down at all. In easy, it wears down slowly. Deterioration accelerates as difficulties increase.
