Hey, I am finally getting around to asking you, the community members, about my ongoing problem with Minecraft.
The Problem: Why do I get low fps/stuttering gameplay?
Of course, I should probably list some important PC specs:
i5-2500k @ 3.3 Ghz
EVGA GTX 580 1.5 GB @ Stock speeds
8GB Corsair RAM @ 1600 Mhz
Gigabyte Z68 Motherboard (Too lazy to come up with a model # Shouldn't matter all that much anyway.)
WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD (SSD just died on me today. Looking into swapping it out for a Samsung 830 series)
So my main issue here is I have many people I know who have strictly weaker computer specs, yet they get significantly higher FPS. On normal +96 render distance, I get about 80-100 FPS whereas other people with slower computers are reaching 150-200 on far.
I have tried allocating varying amounts of memory to MC, but see little to no change. I can allocate 386 MB or 2048 MB and I don't get much of an FPS difference. Now, the only possible explanation I have come up with is the fact that my GTX 580 has lower clock speeds when compared to other gaming video cards.
i.e.
GTX 580 stock speeds- Core: 772 Mhz --- Memory: 2004 Mhz
GTX 550 Ti stock speeds- Core: 900 Mhz --- Memory: 2050 Mhz
and...looking at 680 stock speeds- Core: 1006 Mhz --- Memory: 3004 Mhz
I'm not actually sure if that would be the reason or not...
Thoughts? Ideas? Why do I get lower than expected FPS?
