Hey guys, I've scraped together a lot of information during my time here at MCSG, and I've decided to release my knowledge to the site itself to assist you during the Games. When you start a Game, you probably don't want to be running around aimlessly, not knowing what you're doing, and getting killed without knowing how to defend yourself. Seeing people do this brings pity to my heart, so I've decided to attempt to help out anyone who needs it. (Some of these steps may not be to your liking or skill, but if possible you can improvise and change them to your liking.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. When you start an MCSG match, your on one of many spawns circling what is called a Cornucopia, which has many chests around it. Do not miss the opportunity of looting these chests, as most of the chests have valuable loot inside. The only reason you should miss the opportunity is if you know that there is another chest nearby that usually has equally valuable loot inside. If you go for the Cornucopia chests, however, I recommend that you go for weapons first, Chestplates next, and then any food or other pieces of armor you can get your hands on. Bows, swords, flint and steels, and arrows are weapons you should go for first, as they could save your life in many situations.

2. I say get weapons first, because some tributes tend to linger around the Cornucopia even after everyone runs off, so that they can scavenge any leftovers (Tributes don't always take everything in the chests) and loot other tributes. If you have a weapon, you can defend yourself and probably take down the scavengers before they kill you. The more loot, the merrier. Once you have everything you need from the Cornucopia, you should either run (Jumping constantly improves your running speed significantly) or look around for any other hidden chests.

3. Don't show any mercy or kindness. If you see someone in a trap, do not free them. This gives them the opportunity to sneak up on you and kill you pretending to be your teammate, or killing you later on in the games. These games are tight, and there is absolutely no room for mercy. Kill or be killed.

4. Do not hesitate to knock people off cliffs or into traps. If you see someone near the edge of cliff, this is a perfect opportunity to send them falling to their death. You'll be able to climb down the mountain and retrieve their belongings afterwards. If a person is near or on a trap that is remotely triggered by a nearby pressure plate or lever, trigger the trap. It will either kill them or isolate them from getting any more items, making them an easy kill during Deathmatch.

5. Traps are usually everywhere in an MCSG map. Whatever you do, do not be too greedy. If you are, you'll be stuck in a trap for the rest of the games until Deathmatch. This is bad, because you cannot roam around and collect more resources to better equip yourself, so when Deathmatch begins, you'll be next to defenceless. Always proceed with caution.

6. If you find yourself being chased by another tribute, don't panic. Take note of how much armor they're wearing compared to yours, and see what sort of weapon they have. Say you don't have any armor and they're fully decked in iron armor. You would want to run unless you have at least a wooden sword or stone axe. The resulting fight is depending on your skill vs. theirs. If they are a noob to MCSG, you should be able to take them down easily unless you have a stroke of bad luck. I remember I killed a fully decked noob with a stone axe and leather armor one time, so there is no need for fear.

7. Now, say they are skilled, have better armor AND weapons than you, and is catching up. There's a few things you can do. You can either A. Use your flint and steel to catch them on fire, which will slow them down. B. Attempt to fight anyway, and hope for the best, or C. Keep running and use your skill at parkour to dodge around obstacles, until you're far enough away that you can hide in a building/tree, etc. Hiding is very vital to survival. (Press CTRL to crouch down, and if their line of sight towards you is broken, you'll seem to disappear. Note that if they see where you run to hide, they will probably find you anyway.) I've had plenty of encounters where I ran far enough away, hid in a seemingly obvious spot, and watch their nametags go right past my spot in an attempt to catch up to me, not knowing I gave them the slip. Feels great once you do that.

8. Let the other tributes kill each other before you join in. If you find other tributes fighting one another in a cluster of swords and blood, stay out of it until the remaining one emerges victorious. The fight this person was just in probably left him weak and low on health, making for an easy kill for when you come in to finish the job.

9. If you do have no choice but to fight, here are some tips to survive. For one, strafe from side to side, forcing them to turn around and attempt to keep facing you, probably disorienting them and allowing you to land a flurry of blows without them even scratching you. Note that you have to be aiming your opponent in order to strike them. For another, you can use a flint and steel to burn them. This partially obstructs their view and damages their health despite their armor rating. And if they are still catching up to you when you decide to fight, use a bow and shoot them as many times as you can. (If you're the one being shot at, move from side to side randomly to dodge the arrows.) Arrows are very useful, as they do satisfyingly high damage to a person. Remember to stock up on as many arrows as you can, be it finding or crafting.

10. Now, say there's a team attacking you. Defeating them is a matter of armor and weaponry. If you have a bow and arrows, shoot both of them as many times as you can before they catch up to you (Or attempt to run and hide). Use all of your resources to burn, slow down, and kill them. Use the techniques I told you to fight them. Try to go in between both of them if they separate even slightly, so that they may follow where you go and hit each other. Resources include Golden Apples (Very handy, lets you absorb damage and regenerate health), weapons (Swords and axes both do damage), and maybe even leading them into traps set into the map.

11. Keep your food bar up at all times. If your food bar is all the way full or at least 90% full, your health will regenerate. Any less, though, and your health will not regenerate, and if you go below 3 bars of food, you won't be able to sprint anymore. Stock up on food wherever you can find it!

12. In an MCSG game, sunset is about the time where sponsors will refill every chest in the game with new items. This is the time you should return to the Cornucopia and be ready to make a dash for the new loot that have been placed in the chests. Always be expecting trouble at this time, though, as there may be other people with the same idea, or another tribute with good armor and weapons guarding the Cornucopia. Should you manage to get to the chests, try to take anything that is better than what you currently have (If you have golden, leather or chain armor, go for iron armor; Stone or iron weapons, try to grab all the diamonds you can get and craft a diamond sword) as to better prepare yourself for the Deathmatch.

13. If you survive to Deathmatch, you'll be teleported back to the Cornucopia with about a 7 second period until Deathmatch begins. If you have a bow and arrow, ready your arrow to shoot the other tributes as soon as Deathmatch starts. Fire your arrow about 1 second before it begins so that your arrow has time to travel and hit your opponent. If you have other tributes aiming at you, be ready to sidestep and run around to avoid arrows.

Nice tips but I suggest breaking it up into paragraphs because some people (Including myself) Find reading a block of writing quite agitating.
