I think that when you die, your soul is passed on to the closest person to you being born. So the same souls are constantly in circulation, travelling from person to person when their owners pass. They latch on to humans once they're born and start anew. Once the person dies, everything in their soul is erased and continues on to another person.
Reincarnation, basically.

There are many stories of people who have actually died according to doctors and have come back to life. You should look up the story Heaven is for Real. It is a true story about a little boy and they are making it into a movie. I definitely recommend it! :)
I read that twice a few years ago, it was a very good book (Even though my mom forced me to read it.) And the message was touching.

Also, this was a very deep thread, I've... thunk..? similar thoughts :p

New souls would still need to be created. The birth rate is constantly growing and there are more people now than there were 1,000 years ago. There would need to be more souls to fill more bodies. I see what you are getting at, though, and it is a cool thought! :)

I know. That was kind of an issue when I was thinking about this....
Well maybe all the souls are coming from in Prehistoric times when more people would die than born. And maybe in the future, the amount of people dying and being born will reach the same since it will have to reuse all the souls...
Or maybe I'm just not thinking straight.

There are a lot of things that us humans will never understand, that is just life. Personally I don't believe in having a soul, I haven't before and I probably won't any time soon.

I believe a soul is not a physical organ in our body, as much the heart or the lungs are, but more a metaphorical concept used to dictate morals. For example when you do something bad, people call it selling your soul to the devil. While people may have literally sold their soul to the devil in the bible or other scriptures (I don't know I don't read the bible :p) Many would do it for money, sex and such, which would take away from their morals, selling your soul.

People use souls as a moral markers.

I agree. Looking back on what I wrote, I really didn't make that clear. I was trying to say I think the soul is something inside us all that no-one can see, like love. Many people know it exists, but there is really nothing there to prove it exists except belief. I was also trying to say maybe our soul is I guess "stored" in our brain. Sometimes I wonder if it is part of our ID, Ego, and Superego. Anyways, I hope this made better sense (even though it probably didn't). :p

Recently, I have been taking more things into consideration. I have begun to observe and appreciate more things around me. This has caused me to come up with some interesting theories which I would like to present to you! I have presented these theories to several adults and people around me, and now I want to know your thoughts on the subject. I may post more of my theories over time, but for now, here is my first one I have written down. Also, this is very disorganized and may be slightly confusing considering I was trying to remember as much as possible off of the top of my head.

I was thinking the other day and I came up with this theory. Assuming there is a God and an afterlife, this would mean we all have a soul. Where is our soul, though? We all say we love with our heart, yet the heart is really just an organ inside of our bodies to pump blood. Humans actually experience love because of our emotions, and the emotions we feel are all part of the brain. If we experience emotions, thoughts, and more in our brains, could that be where the soul is stored? What if, when Adam and Eve ate the fruit in the Garden of Eden, it poisoned their brain? Could it be this is why we don't use all of our brain, and if we were to use all of our brain, would we all be considered perfect? Since the brain would be poisoned, could it be our soul is trapped there until we die? Once people die and go to heaven, their spirits become perfect again. Is this because the soul is released from the imperfect brain???? Humans may never know, but consider the thought, and don't underestimate the theory until there is hard evidence to prove it wrong.
Have a nice day!

I don't think a soul exists. What exists is our brain, and the activity in our brain is what we have come to conceive as a conscious. Your brain exists. It is physically inside of you. You exist. But could you bring me a soul? No. It doesn't really exist. It is a conception of humans to explain something we don't understand in a way we can understand.

This is just what I think, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
