Random Lag Spikes?

Whenever I'm playing a game and PvPing someone my Minecraft will just start freezing. I'll be at 40 FPS then drop down to 20 then Minecraft will just freeze and it repeats itself. Is anyone else getting this? If so how did you fix it? Thanks for any help.

Try using OptiFine if you aren't already. I've been noticing the random lag spikes too, and I'm wondering if it's something to do with 1.6.2.

Same here. Drop to like 6 FPS. Already have Optifine and all that jazz. Hopefully 1.6.3 or whatever the next update is will fix it.

Without optifine on my mom's computer, i get like 70 fps, then all of the sudden it drops down to 30...20...10...and then back up.

That's the exact same as me except it happens when I'm fighting someone
