In this image, what would you add/change to get the redstone current to pass through the wool block to get the redstone wire on the right side to light up? This should be done without moving the block and torch or placing anything on top or around the sides of the block.:

In the following images (image 1 | image 2) there is a piston door powered by a wooden button. The piston door is always open and the button closes it. What would you add/change to make the piston door stay closed and have the button open it instead? This should be done without removing the button:
