This forum post should answer the question of "When or is Optifine out for Minecraft 1.7x?"
As quoted on the Official Minecraft forums page for Optifine:
"Update to 1.7.2 is at 10%: Decoding 1.7.2 mappings and waiting for MCP to fix re-obfuscation"
+Minecraft Coder Pack is a modding toolkit that allows for the decompilation and deobfuscation of Minecraft Client and Minecraft Server. It is included by default with Minecraft Forge.
The the question of when the updating process will begin is based on the MCP as stated. A challenge for 6 people against over 500,000 lines of changed coding, along with various content ID changes. The 1.7x update is huge,and updating the coding will take time. The people at Forge have estimated that we shouldn't expect any major mod updates until at least early next year.
Good news: A new CraftBukkit Beta Build (1.7.2-R0.2) was released.
+Bukkit is an up-and-coming Minecraft Server mod that will completely change how running and modifying a Minecraft server is done - making managing and creating servers easier and providing more flexibility.
