They aren't necessarily pointless, but I get where you're coming from. Typically, they're all saying or asking the same thing.

The Fishing Rod Tactic:
1) when you are running towards someone, quickly hit them with your fishing rod to stun them. This should let you get 1 or 2 more hits off before they can hit you. It is also smart to scroll the mouse weal to retract the rod, this makes it so no durability is used.
2) when you are chasing someone. Try to hit them with your fishing rod so that they bump into objects that will break there sprint. The more times you hit them the greater the chance of their sprint messing up will be.
3) the fishing rod can also be useful when using flint n steal. Quickly turn around, hit them with your fishing rod. Then quickly place the fire. Usually they will run right in the fire and will be an easy target for arrows.
