He isn't hacking, it's the hit registration issue. Although, this kind of thing never happened to me. When it happens to me, the hits register after I try to hit once or twice. It's weird that you couldn't even get one hit.

Yeh this unfortunately happens quite frequently due to the issues with hit reg atm (it’s happened to me multiple times and it sucks when it does)

Sometimes this happens to me. Blocking my sword fixes it .
