Hey MCSG art community! You're looking amazing as usual, but I have some questions for you.
What tablets shall I get?
Now I know wacom is the main provider for digital art tablets but I was wondering if there were any tablets that display your art on screen that ARNT $1000. Any ideas? And if they're all above $400 then are there any amazing hidden art/tablets secrets you can tell everyone?

Just asking <3

I don't think there are any on-screen display tablets for under $1000.
And if there are, I wouldn't expect good quality.

WACOM is always a good choice when looking for a tablet.
For non-professional work, I would choose a Bamboo. They are cheap, and a good way to start.
Then, if you are reallly stepping up your work and need something better go to an intuos.
The have more settings, controls and a larger work space.
I don't think an On-Screen display is necessary.
If you have the money to spend, sure go for it. But, if it is your first tablet, I don't see the need for a on-screen display.

Hope I helped.

I think it would be weird not seeing where your lines are and not knowing where to start your lines. Is that how it works?

No.
You can see your mouse on the screen. You can always see where your cursor is.
I know many people use a tablet as people would a mouse.
After practice, you will get used to a tablet.

So if I drag the pen across the tablet, it wont draw but it will move the mouse, and when I press hard it draws?

Pretty much XD

What you end up doing is watching the screen (computer) to know where your lines are, and just drawing without really looking down at the tablet.

At least that's what I do XD

EDIT: If you're just starting with tablets, definitely go with the Wacom Bamboo. It's only around $80, and if you decide you're not going to get majorly into drawing it's much better than shelling out around $1,000 for a Cintiq.

No.
A graphics tablet is made so that when your pen is close to te tablet, but not touching it, it stills detects it.
So imagine you were almost touching the surface, but not quite.
It would still detect that and move the cursor.
If you touch the surface it will take it as you are clicking the mouse.
Also, if you press harder, when you are drawing you can get a thicker line due to pressure sensitivity.
