Minecraft's RAM

So I was having problems with Minecraft a little while ago. It was claiming my Minecraft had run out of memory, and I was getting this thing where MC crashes and makes a text document called hs_err_pid####. So I allocated Minecraft more RAM (from .5 GB to about 2 GB, considering my computer has 8GB of RAM). Now I run at about 12 fps, compared to my previous ~70. I honestly don't know what's wrong, and I'm positive my computer can support this "Enormous" amount of RAM. I should also say I have a 64 bit OS and Java. Any help?

Re-installing minecraft takes a lot more effort than that, but try deleting the bin first.
If that doesn't work, why don't you try just moving down to 1 GB of RAM for Minecraft?
