1. Know the map,
First off you should take time to study the maps so that when you play you:
a) Have a good chest route.
b) Dont get lost on the map.
2. Go for corn,
At the start of the games always go for corn, it is the best place to get good gear. Dont stay too long thow just try to get at least one chest.
3. Pursue if you have a weapon,
If you have a weapon and some armor your best chance to win is to stay agressive and keep moving across the map. Keep looking for chests and people. If you dont have a team then make sure your careful if you come across one. If you do come across someone try to get as many hits in as you can and to try not to get hit yourself.
4. Keep a neat inventory,
this can be a lifesavor, if you dont have a clean inventory and you get in a fight and have to get food fast you would have to open your inventory, find the food, find room in the bar you use and then eat it. And it is very hard to do that if your running from someone.
5. Stay away from hotspots,
Make sure you stay away from the hotspots, ill give an example.

Tewaren: the dragon
These are only some examples, but unless you have the closest position, i would stay away from the hotspots.
