Making a map

I am making a map and was wondering since there is a plugin used do i have to put items in the chests and what do i do for the starting pads?

I'm pretty sure you don't put items in the chest as the plugin does it.
And the starting blocks are 2 blocks high. Then it has sides which makes it look like a plus (+)

I'm not 100% sure about this.

but what do i use for the slabs?

Stone Brick Slabs, Use a bit of mossy and cracked stone bricks aswell.

I don't think you have to use specific blocks or a certain pattern as long as there is some sort of pedestal for each contestant and they're all uniform.

Duyts is right, you can you any blocks you want as long as it matches the theme of your map
