Just curious if anyone else here is an Adventure Time fan?

So as of a few weeks ago, I've been hooked completely with Adventure Time. I'd watched the show from time to time when I was bored, and found it really funny, but only recently did I decid to delve into some of the more "Emotionally praised" episodes (I'd already seen most of them, but I went into them with renewed thought) and I gotta say! Damn is this show amazing. I mean, I knew it was funny, but even outside of that the emotion, the action, the backstory is all so spot on!

For those of you who don't follow the show, or have heard negative things, I'd give it a look over for yourself. The comedy alone is worth watching it for, but it really transcends what a children's show can do, with all of the elements and ideas it's touched upon. For a show that's so random, light, and surreal in it's humor, it's shocking how much the overarching plot is based so much in character, darkness, and the human condition. It's a rare show where yes, I can watch any random episode and enjoy it for what it is, whether it be emotionally strong or comedicly strong. But what really pulls it up for me, is that watching each and every (or most) episode opens up such a great story.

I figured since there seems to be no talk about the show on our forums, I'd open a thread to look for any other fans. Favorite episodes? Characters?

I've never actually watched it, but it did catch my eye when I saw a glowing review for it in the Los Angeles Times of all places.

Not too big of a fan, sorry. It isn't my kind of humor.

Regular show and Adventure time fan. Hence my signature.
Regular show is really good as well. Not as much depth of course, but it has a lot of character, and is funny in its own right. It has that 80's feel that I just love.

You'd be surprised how many people it's caught the attention of. Even the most stuck up, or seemingly adult places, you'll find massive praise for the show. It's really only people that glance over 1 episode that give it bad reviews. It seems so juvenile from the offset, but not only does the stupid randomness grow on you, the show begins to enforce it's own logic upon you to a point that's both charming and enjoyable. I highly recommend it.

You can stream it for free in quite a few places online, I'd watch from S1E1, but if you need a kickstart to get you into the idea of AT the best S1 episodes for newbie are --

Tree Trunks -- A hilarious character, a hilarious ending, and a decent example of the characters and who they are. The random is all here, but so is the basis in character and action.
Prisoners of Love -- While not technically one of the better episodes, it brings to life the all common plot device of "The Ice kind is a sad jerk, and will kidnap princesses.
The Enchiridion -- The technical "First" episode of the show produced. It shows off it's characters, concepts, and action, and comedy excellently. It's a good example of what's to come for later on.
Dungeon -- This has the charmful, silly, and adventure filled aspect of the show all wrapped up nicely. It feels like something directly out of a video game, and is another great example of what AT can do.

Note - these episodes are really more comically based than emotionally, it's not really until S3 that backstory and emotion started to play into the show itself.

I've never actually gone too in-depth on Adventure Time, but absolutely love Regular Show.

I've heard from many people that it's a pretty well made show, but on the opposite end of the spectrum I've heard from people that it's really weird, but I'm pretty sure those comments I've heard are from people who don't actually watch the show and just make a quick assumption it's weird.

I'll give it a shot later this week, I've always wanted to watch it, but have just never got up to it.

Yeah, it all depends on what you want to see, regular show is much more grounded in its humor, and that is more often than not the focus of the show. I personally have no issues with it, AT is definitely far from something for everyone. I prefer AT because I took the time to really get invested in the characters and backstory, which in hindsight make the comedy and average episode all the more interesting and fun. I do acknowledge that many (if not most) people will be able to get into it.
Uncle Grandpa is awful though, it's just trying to cash in on the odd and random phase on CN right now, without realizing that all of the other shows have more than just ugliness and vulgarity going into them.

If you love regular show, you may be a little timid with AT, especially early AT. Granted, the endgame comedy in each isn't too far apart, but you'll find that you need a completely different mindset going into Adventure Time. It requires a lot of thinking later on, for the humor that references past episodes to be funny. Regular Show does this as well, but just on a more blatant level.

It's all about James Baxter. You know he's the only reason you watch. At least it is for me ;-;
